How Adrian Wall treated high fasting blood sugar?
Note - This article is written by one of our patients about their experiences with high fasting blood sugar.
Adrian Wall here, and I recently turned 45 years old. I made the decision to have a full blood test this year to make sure everything was in order because I have always placed a high priority on living a healthy and active lifestyle. I was shocked to learn that my fasting blood sugar level was higher than average at 105.
I had a hard time accepting this news at first. How is this even possible for me? I was a frequent exerciser, ate a balanced diet, and had no known relatives who had the disease. As reality, though, began to sink in, I realised that I had to face this problem head-on. I did a lot of study to learn the reasons behind high fasting blood sugar levels and possible treatments.
Knowing what to expect, I made an appointment with my doctor to go over the results and come up with a strategy for properly controlling my blood sugar levels. We discussed different lifestyle changes that could give me back control over my health during the appointment. My diet underwent a lot of adjustments as the initial phase. I started keeping track of how many carbohydrates I was eating, emphasising complex carbohydrates like those found in whole grains, legumes, and vegetables while reducing my intake of simple sugars and refined carbohydrates.

I committed to a more regular workout schedule to go along with these food changes. I made time in my daily schedule for exercises including brisk walks, cycling, and weight training. Regular exercise helped me lose weight and increased my body's sensitivity to insulin, which made it easier for my cells to use glucose.
I understood the need of managing stress levels in addition to food adjustments and exercise. I adopted stress-reduction practises like yoga and meditation because I wanted to find harmony and balance in my daily life. I also gave regular, adequate sleep a high priority after learning how sleep deprivation might impair glucose metabolism.
My doctor gave me medication to assist control my blood sugar levels to help me in my efforts. I was initially reluctant to rely on medication because I favoured a more all-encompassing strategy. My doctor reassured me, nevertheless, that taking medication would help stabilise my levels while I made the necessary lifestyle modifications. It was critical to approach drugs as a tool to aid my development rather than a long-term fix.
I simultaneously joined a support group for people dealing with high fasting blood sugar levels in an effort to find comfort and direction. I felt less alone on my trip when I connected with people who had to deal with comparable difficulties. We helped one other become more motivated to work towards better health by exchanging advice, recipes, and emotional support.
My fasting blood sugar levels started to rise as a result of my constant commitment and perseverance over time. I constantly kept track of my glucose readings and changed my lifestyle as necessary. Even though there were times when I felt frustrated and had disappointments, I wouldn't let them stop me from pursuing ideal health.
A few months later, I got some good news from my doctor during a follow-up appointment. My fasting blood sugar level had drastically decreased and was now circling around the 90-point healthy zone. My doctor praised my development and emphasised the need of keeping up the constructive improvements I had made.
I still put my health first today and choose things that will benefit my overall health. I've started living sustainably, which involves getting regular exercise, eating a healthy diet, and keeping an eye on my blood sugar levels. I've developed the ability to pay attention to my body's signals and identify when things isn't quite right.
High fasting blood sugar levels have served as a wake-up call for me, reminding me of the importance of proactive health management and self-care. I've learned perseverance, discipline, and the value of education from it. Despite the difficult path, I am glad for this experience because it has given me the power to take charge of my health and make long-lasting beneficial changes.
